Forget aboutsyk asking neighbors for help – get the plants to water themselves on your summer vacation

Summer vacation… Lazy days at the beach, weekends at an Airbnb house, or maybe a trip abroad. Yes, it’s almost time to celebrate the summer with some time off, and a trip to enjoy our favorite warm-weather. But before packing our bags and heading off for that long awaited trip, there are always somethings to keep in our account.

For example: The mail needs to be held at the post office, the grass needs to be cut,  the lights should be scheduled; so it looks like there’s someone home ;and the plants have to be watered.

For many of us, to solve the last mentioned problom, is to ask a friend or neighbor to do it.  Luckily, there is no need for that anymore, because there is a simple trick that makes your plants water itself.

You read that right. With this clever method, your plants get exactly the amount of water they need while you’re away from home. And you don’t need to even lift a finger.

1. Plastic Bottle Hack


  • Any plastic bottle (Be sure to rinse out thoroughly, in case you use a bottle that contains other liquidq than water).
  • Box cutter or scissors.
  • Thumbtack or safety pin.


1.Carefully, cut off the bottom of the plastic bottle.

2.Using a thumbtack or safety pin; poke 8-10 holes in the top of the plastic bottle, where it tapers.

3.Digg enaugh in the soil of the plant, to form a hole. After finishing,put the bottle in that hole and make it stand, then fill it with water in need.

2. Plastic Jug Hack


  • Any plastic jug (Be sure to rinse out thoroughly, in case of using a jug that contains other liquid than water).
  • Cotton string or shoelace.


1.Fill jug with water.

2.Place one end of the string inside the jug, and make sure it reaches the water. You can tie a weight to the bottom of the string, in that way you keep it down in nessecities.

3.Dig a hole 2-3 inches deep, about halfway between the plant and the edge of the pot.

4.Place the other end of the string in the hole, using the soil to keep the string in place.

5.To facilitate the excss reach the jug easialy, make sure the string is in a straight line.

6.Refill as needed.

3. Wine Bottle Hack


  • Wine bottle, cleaned.
  • Nail.
  • Hammer.


1.Carefully, hammer nail into the cork of a wine bottle (You can also do this with a twist-off cap). Make sure the nail goes all the way through the cork, but leave a little space at the top of the cork to easy remove it.

2.Replace cork on wine bottle filled with water, and make sure water can get through.

3.Place in soil angled toward plant and refill it in need.
